Work Vocabulary

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Actions may speak louder than words, but here at games2win, nothing speaks louder than a smattering of swear words inserted at regular intervals within a sentence. Let me demonstrate – When someone needs something to be done, first an email is sent off, for example:

“Dear X,

So and so needs to be done immediately. Please finish it asap and send me the completed document.”

Of course, such mails never work. Which is why, after a waiting period (defined depending on the urgency of work to be completed) a call is made. It goes something like this:

“Listen you #$%*#, you better get this %$#@% work done before I get there and fire your a$$!”

I have put this as mildly as I can, so you can imagine the actual extent of the profanity, which even goes on to involve people’s mothers, sisters, fathers, brothers, and sometimes even distant relatives. It is no surprise then, that work gets done at the speed of light!

Hey, we may be a fun loving bunch, but we know how to get our work done!

Mug Shot

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

No don’t worry, nobody’s gone to jail…at least not yet! With the kind of hooligans here, you never know….

Anyway, last time I described the infamous coffee breaks, this time I take up a related and most fascinating topic – Coffee Mugs! Okay, I know it sounds dull, but really, you should see the collection we got going here, it would put any curio shop to shame!

Some people have their photographs imprinted onto their mugs, while others have received some rather embarrassing ones as birthday gifts! Most others are advertisements for brands, mainly Google! (I’m telling you, they’re gonna rule the world someday…)
Then come the really quirky ones, some having threatening messages, and I quote – ‘Touch this Mug and your body will mysteriously disappear’…Errr so some people are rather possessive about their beverage holders I gather…Then there are some mugs which are just plain impractical, for example, a mug having a fur handle, making it impossible to hold it! These are the mugs which then take on the role of pen holders, and containers for a variety of other things!

I hope you found this as fascinating as I did…Tell next time!

Gimme a break!

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

Everybody deserves a break…especially hard working people like us who work day and night creating games to get gourmet food on the table…..ahhhh how I love the smell of ricotta cheese and garlic infused butter on focaccia bread….so anyway, we at G2W get tired very easily The result being, lots and lots of coffee breaks! Of course these coffee breaks happen outside, in this open area right outside the office, which is a breath of fresh air, literally! So anyway, we end up spending more time outside the office than inside; sometimes we even have meetings there! So we arranged for some chairs to be put outside so, you know, we have a place to sit when we’re ‘thinking’…of course you have to catch a seat before somebody else does, or you’ll be waiting for the next couple of hours!
That’s reminds me, gotta go catch myself a seat! See you guys!

Desk Top Tales

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

Hello people! So while I was typing this blog entry, I almost toppled my coffee mug off the desk…Thank God my pillow was there to cushion its fall…Right, now to explain what a pillow is doing on my desk! You see, sometimes I need to put my head down, you know, get some shut eye when I’m suffering from writer’s block (which according to my boss happens VERY often!). So you can understand, a hard wooden desk isn’t exactly a sleeper’s dream (Get it??!!) Hence the pillow…

You think the pillow is crazy? You should the stuff people here at G2W put on their desks…Why I think you can find every mode of transport parked on the peoples’ tables, ranging from bikes to ships to airplanes! Not to mention all the desks cluttered with curios from holidays, birthday gifts, etc… Its almost like a mini museum of artifacts here!

That’s enough for today, I’m going to get some shut eye with, you guessed it, my pillow! Good night!

Office Style

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

An important aspect of office culture is its dress code. All companies have their own dress code and so does G2W. Here we follow the traditional Dress Code Model – Monday through Thursday: Formal Attire, and of course then comes Casual Friday! Of course, the creative team is an exception to this model…we can pretty much wear whatever we want! Of course, some take this freedom a little too far and land up in clothes that can only be described as curtains and bed sheets sewn together! I mean, I’m all for freedom of expression but wearing clothes that resemble superhero costumes is ridiculous! Next thing you know the meeting room will be full of The Village People discussing game concepts….Hmm….That makes for an interesting visual doesn’t it?

Anyway, back to the crazy costume party…Later!
